Marketing originating in the public sector can often be the impetus of social change. Through social marketing campaigns we’ve seen many positive changes in our society and our lives. Successes include reducing HIV infections via safe sex, adopting responsible drinking habits and encouraging environmentally positive energy choices. And a big reason for these behavioural changes is the successful partnership between public sector marketers and advertising agencies. In fact, more and more of these public sector sponsored campaigns are winning advertising awards.
Are you interested in finding out how a partnership between public policy and advertising can create positive social change? If so, you’ll want to attend this event as part of this year’s National Advertising Week. This event shines a light on innovative social marketing that is currently being created in Canada and the world.
You won’t want to miss featured speakers such as environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. whose work with the Waterkeeper Alliance has helped clean and preserve waterways around the world. David Stevenson of The Rocket Science Group from London, U.K. will highlight successful public sector campaigns out of the U.K. that have been critical to social change. Eli Singer of Entrinsic and Tara Hunt, author of ‘The Whuffie Factor’ will explore a variety of tools to reach online communities and show you how to connect with them using social capital. Finally, award winning creative directors and their clients will share insights on their public sector campaigns that have broken through barriers. They’ll be showing examples of their cutting edge campaigns that have been successful in promoting positive social behaviours.
Whether you work in the public sector, for not-for-profits or within an ad agency, this event offers invaluable input. It’s designed to accelerate the professional development of every marketing and communications practitioner, senior communications policy maker and professional communications strategist.

- The Bensimon Byrne Consumerology Report – January 2010: Technology and Consumers - SOLD OUT!
- Description:
- Details
Sponsored by: Advertising Standards Canada (ASC) and the Association of Canadian Advertisers (ACA)
The Bensimon Byrne Consumerology Report is a quarterly survey of 1500 Canadians. It explores consumer behaviour in relation to macro trends in society at large. Previous reports have focused on Food & Health, the Environment, New Canadians, the urban rural Density Divide and, of course, the impact of Macro Economic trends.
The next Consumerology Report will explore technology trends affecting a wide range of consumer behaviour. Technology is playing a transformative role in the consumer space, and this study is designed to tell us – with precision – how that is happening. The growing reach of communications technology into every corner of our lives is impacting how consumers seek out information, how they receive information, how they shop, and how they buy. It has fundamentally changed the power relationship between consumer and brand.
We will look at the role online media plays in shaping brand images and informing consumers, the way consumers now research purchases and decide to buy, and the prevalence of social media in the process. All of this will be linked to key demographics (income, gender, age, new or old Canadian, rural or urban resident.) We will also explore two topics – PVRs and online advertising formats -- using innovative research techniques that will greatly enhance our understanding of their impact.
We believe this Consumerology Report will bring an understanding of technology and Canadian consumers that does not currently exist in the public domain. It will be of tremendous value to all marketers seeking better understanding of the implications of technology for consumer behaviour.
The study is produced for Bensimon Byrne by the Gandalf Group. Presentation of the results will be done jointly by Jack Bensimon and David Herle, principals of their respective firms.

- Description:
- Arianna Huffington, The Huffington Post
- Details
Sponsored by: Toronto Star/Metroland Media Group
The tech advances of the last few years have turned the news and entertainment worlds on their ears, shifting the balance of power away from media poobahs dictating what is important and what is not and toward consumers — and citizens — being empowered to choose and create. Technology is having the same game-changing effect on the political world. In this lively presentation, Arianna Huffington, described by Fortune Magazine as one of the few people who “get” the Internet, discusses the latest online media trends — including how media companies are turning content promiscuity into profits — and reveals her vision of a hybrid future where traditional media and new media become one. Tickets are not included in the Speaker Series Package. Tickets must be purchased individually for this event.
